Onboard 0.5 FTE to provide 20 hours of acupuncture services

Major Responsibilities:

  • Performs assessment of client status and formulates a treatment care plan in accordance with the client's goals and acupuncture practice standards. Ensures assessments reflect synthesis of gathered data into an appropriate plan of care.
  • Develops an acupuncture plan of care that reflects the client's goals while incorporating the principles of growth and development over the life span. Provides acupuncture as a single course of treatment or in conjunction with other forms of medical treatment according to licensure guidelines and professional practice standards.
  • Completes all required documentation within the same business day of the client visit. All written communication must be legible and concise and entered into the medical record. Establishes and maintains all required departmental documentation following department policy.
  • Tailors education (written and verbal instruction) to meet the age-specific and individualized need of the client. Recognizes client's inability to attain goals and consults with other appropriate professionals in the interest of the client.
  • Facilitates client's obtainment of equipment or supplies to meet individualized goals. Acknowledges confidential nature of the professional relationship with a client and respects each client's right to privacy.
  • Reports promptly to any referring physicians, if requested, the method of acupuncture treatment and the results of such treatment with the information the referring physician requires maintaining the records regarding acupuncture treatment.
  • Takes an active role in program development and contributes ideas for the development of promotional materials and community education. Develops formal educational offerings in accordance with department strategies to meet customer needs.
  • Provides an environment consistent with accepted standards of sanitation, hygiene, safety and Universal Precautions.
  • Participates in self-directed, professional continuing education to enhance clinical performance by updating theoretical knowledge, technique skills and clinical applications.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:

  • Acupuncture license issued by the state of Wisconsin

Education Required:

  • Master's Degree in Acupuncture.

Experience Required:

  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in the practice of acupuncture that includes the use of acupuncture with a minimum of 100 different patients and 500 patient visits per year required. Practice scope must be at least 70% general health care.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Good human relations, communication, organization, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Must be able to assist in lifting/moving patients. Frequently lifts up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts up to 75 pounds without assistance.
  • Must be able to stand 70% of the day and sit, walk, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, twist, crawl, kneel and climb throughout the workday.
  • Repetitive use of the hands and fine motor manipulation for grasping small objects in all activities, including the placement of acupuncture needles.
  • Must have functional use of the senses to allow for effective communication. Vision must be corrected to 20/60.
  • Potential for exposure to blood and body fluids through patient contact and therefore must wear protective clothing as needed.
  • May be exposed to mechanical, radiation and electrical hazards associated with x-ray and other equipment. Required wearing protective clothing including lead shield for x-ray precautions.
